Saved but Stuck in Sin!
Updated: Oct 27, 2018
If the Joy of the Lord gives us strength - you would think that more years in Christ might mean more strength, or Joy, of fruit, but look around the church and it often seems just the opposite.
Remember the original Passover when God Told Moses to have all the Israelites, at that time captive in Egypt to slaughter a Lamb and put the Blood on their door – preserving their 1st born from the wrath of God who would come in the night killing all 1st born for those that were not His people as the final plague.
Now consider this - when the Pharaoh finally had enough and "let God's people go," where were they now?
Answer – Egypt – They were in Egypt before and they were in Egypt after. Although they were delivered through faithful obedience they had only realized part of what we call the the Gospel. They were still in Egypt and still in captivity. In fact Gods people would still spend another 40 years wondering the wildness (looking for contact lenses I like to think) and in hope of promised land.
This sacrificial blood on the doors was a foreshadow of the True sacrificial Lamb of God, Jesus Christ, who came according to scriptures to take away the sins of the world, by dying for you and me so that we might live in Him.
And so that we might abound in Victory …rather than as we often do - drown in misery.
In my counseling sessions I have far too many Good – God fearing Christians come to me crying about how they are:
beat up – or
alone they are.
That is another sign of believers only understanding 1/2 Gospel. (We often know about heaven - but forget the "Hope deferred makes the heart sick" and John 10:10 reminds us that we have victory today and life in abundance if we according to new life in the Spirit which indwells in us.
Because God’s Truth says:
Rejoice with me – for I have found my sheep
Cast your fears on me – for there is no fear in love and God is Love
Do not be dismayed – for my Yoke is light
And it says He is always with us – and he will never leave us.
But in services across America people are waling around with fear of not living up to self imposed "spostas"
- Im spsota go to mid week study
- Im sposta read a morning devotional
- Im sposta memorize more scripture
- Im sposta be more patient
- Im sposta pray longer, lounder, deeper
Im sposta dress a certain way, listen to certain music, and on and on.
God’s word says in Colossian’s 2:16 –“ Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holy-day, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:………..for these are shadows of what was to come which is - Jesus Christ.
And Paul goes on to say - If you have died with Christ to the [a]elementary principles of the world, - why, as if you were still living in the world, do you submit to rules and regulations, such as, “Do not handle this, do not taste that, do not even touch!”? (these things all perish with use)—in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men. These practices indeed have the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and mock humility and severe treatment of the body (asceticism), but are of no value against sinful indulgence because they do not honor God.
Hear That – God’s own Word says – STOP! Now let me pause here you before you start falling asleep and you mistake what I am saying.
When I talk about box checking some say:
Pastor – Are you suggesting not attending church – Absolutely not – I am suggesting attend church because “You want to” not because “you need to.”
If you don’t “want to” work on your relationship with God – rather than checking more boxes that God Himself said – mock Him and are of No VALUE TO HIM.
Well Pastor – are you suggesting that you don’t tithe – or give offerings
Absolutely not – I am suggesting that you give because your eyes are so focused on the power of the Cross that money is just a thing – and a thing is just a blessing from God – that if He wants us to share some back – out of love and obedience – than AWESOME – We do so Joyfully.
Pastor – are you suggesting – you get in a small group or attend a midweek meeting – Not necessarily – and never to fit in at church or to get more of Christ.
You see – many people think that they need to attend more things – so they can be with Christ more. But the BIBLE Says “We are the Church” and He lives in us
so If you are a mature believer – You don’t need more of Christ as if you’re eating pizza and want to greedily gobble an extra slice. THAT MENTALITY ALONE SUGGESTS SOME DEEPER MEDITATION AND DISCERNMENT WITH THE LORD.
I am submitting that when you get to a point where you want to learn more about God from other people who walk with God – to consider joining other things – even if just for a season.
God is to vast to think that any one person could know it all – and I ready the Bible a half a dozen times a year and learn more every time. So being around other people allow you do gain other perspectives, and accountability. I myself am looking forward to being around people that have been wooed by God to seek and share Him with diligence and discipline.
Pastor – are you saying because of Grace I can sin? Absolutely Not.
I am saying (AS PAUL DID) that if you have to ask me that – you still don’t know who you are – In Christ.
It is no longer we who live but Christ who lives within us.
If Christ is really in you – you would not even be able to fathom – contemplating ways to justify a sinning nature.
if you do not do the commandments – you don’t know the father.
The Bible says -
blessed are those who hear the word of God and observe it. (Luke 11:28)
keep the commandment without stain or reproach until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Tim 6:14)
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome (1 John 5:3)
Matt 7 - “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill”
Fulfill means to – fulfill – meaning to complete what was prophesied – (So lets look at the Profit Jeremiah)
Jeremiah 31:31-34 - "Behold, days are coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant which I made with their fathers in the day I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, My covenant which they broke, although I was a husband to them," declares the LORD. "But this is the covenant which I will make with the house of Israel after those days," declares the LORD, "I will put My law within them and on their heart, I will write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
So hear this - I am not suggesting that you don’t obey the law any more than I would tell you to drive recklessly around a school zone,
I am saying liberated believers have moved on from this topic – and onto growing in their identity.
In fact 1 Tim 1:9 - tells us that - the law is not made for a righteous man, but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and for sinners.
You know what is right – and The Law is now on your heart
I do not need to remind everyone on their way out of church service not to run over kids on their way home – anymore than I need to tell true believers about the law.
You might tell someone at a bar not to drink and drive – but you don’t tell a sober person at church not to because – they are beyond the elementary.
The law opened my once drunk eyes to the sin in my and the distance between who I was in the flesh and who God made me to be.
The law – brought me to repentance and to death of my old self
But Grace brought me to Glory.
Believe That and Be saved. Believe That Because Its Truth – and Truth shall…Set you free!
