What is the Gospel and What does it Mean to Who You Are?
What is the Gospel and What does it mean to who you are?
As humans – the Gospel is the best news we can hear – because it saves us from the penalties we deserve but a supreme divine judge of the universe.
As Christians – It is the Good News – that we have been saved and transformed into His likeness.
As Disciples – sharing the Gospel with a fallen world is the Great Commission given to the original (12-then 11) apostles – in Matthew 28.
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
So - what is the Good News specifically?
Revelation says that “if anyone takes words away from this scroll of prophecy, God will take away from that person any share in the tree of life and in the Holy City” So I am going to conclude by reading only scripture on how Gods Word describes the 3 components of the Gospel.
1) Saved from Gods wrath by Grace!
The Gospel Saves us from wrath of Sin -through the atoning power of Christ on the Cross.
This is The Gospel - That we remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David (2 Tim. 2:8)
Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel (Isa 7-14)
One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. (Heb 4:15)
In His perfection – He became the sacrificial Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world (John 1:29)
For God made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in him (2 Cor. 5:21)
Christ died for our sins, fulfilling to the Scriptures … he was buried. . . . The third day he rose again from the dead, and he appeared. Paul writes this that - By this Gospel you are saved” (1 Cor. 15:1-2)
He was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his stripes we are healed (Isa. 53:5)
He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God. (Mark 16:19)
On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords. (Ren 19:16)
And He is the Judge of The World – (Mat 25-31)
And For by His grace alone you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. (Eph 2:8-9)
Through one man (Adam’s) disobedience sin entered into the world, so by the obedience of one man (Jesus) many may be made righteous. (Rom 5-12)
For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. (Rom 23)
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Rom. 5:8)
The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel. (Mark 1-15).
Declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and you will be saved. (Rom 10:9)
God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life (John 3:16)
2) Saved For Streets of Gold!
We were Saved From Death – for life eternal for the Father!
Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is. All who have this hope in him purify themselves, just as he is pure. (1 John 3:2)
Heaven and earth will pass away, but His words will never pass away. (Matt 24:35)
So, do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven. (Matt 6:19)
For our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ. (Philippians 3:20)
For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. (1 Thes 4:16)
He will wipe every tear from our eyes. There will be no more death' or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away. (Rev 21:4)
3) We were Saved For Glory!
Victory is today – For we are His Glory on Earth.
Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)
we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit. (2 Cor 3:18)
Through Christ – We are more Than Conquerors – [and], If God is for us, who can be against us? (8:31)
Everyone Born of God overcomes the world – This is the Victory (1 John 5:4)
[remember] Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. (1 John 4:4)
[So] While the thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; Jesus comes that we may have life, and have it more abundantly.
No temptation has overtaken you except what is common to mankind. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can endure it. (1 Cor 10:13)
In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! He has overcome the world.” (John 16-33)
Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. (James 1:2-8)
“Where, O death, is your victory? - Where, O death, is your sting?”[a] - 56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! In all circumstances - He gives us, the mature Christians, the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Cor 15-57)
The Gospel does not just save us where we are – it is about Changing us to Who He is.
· Perhaps the most Glorious of the Bibles mysteries is the Mystery of the Gospel (Indwelling) - Christ in you - the hope of Glory – (Col 1:27).
· Hope is assurance in the Promise - and you are The Glory because Christ Now Lives In you - and the Victory is uncovering that revelation.
· The Mystery of the Gospels s Indwelling is the promise that His Power and Glory IS IN FACT HIM IN YOU!
THAT IS YOUR IDENTITY! Washed White as snow! (Isa 1:18)
Walk In The Truth, Walk In The Spirit – Walk in Victory!
